This
morning Ian and Di will transfer you to the Blinman airstrip for your flight
to Adelaide, which connects with a short flight to Kangaroo Island. The
owners of Stranraer Homestead, Lynn and Graham Wheaton will be awaiting your
arrival at the Kangaroo Island Airport. Lynn and Graham will transfer you to
their beautiful property which will be your home for the next three days.
The homestead overlooks the rolling fields, and bush, which covers a large
percentage of the island. Just down the front of the homestead, the property
boasts its own cricket field! If you are there during the cricket season
(November to April) you may even witness a game of country cricketon
Saturdays! While here Lynn will spoil you with a culinary finesse that would
make a five-star resturant chef envious. This, in conjunction with, quite
possibly, the freshest produce in the world, makes for a dining experience
second-to-none. Kangaroo Island has been described as one of Australia's
best kept secrets. The island boasts a wide variety of native flora and
fauna in it's natural habitat, unpolluted beaches, and magnificent coastal
scenerary. The local wildlife includes penguins, sea lions, wallabies,
kangaroos, koalas, tasmanian devils, just to name a few! You will be treated
to these specticles by "Adventure Charters", whose guides are
knowledgable, and enthusiastic about the natural wonders of this little
island they call home. We invite you to discover our unique part of the
world - a very special island with all the scenic variety of mainland
Australia but without the crowds!
Nutmeg
Grove is situated in a lush green valley surrounded by rainforest mountains
and part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage listed area. Their own rainforest
includes a wet weather creek with walking tracks. There are many places to
sit and enjoy the sounds of tropical living at its best. Listening to birds,
reading under shady trees, painting master pieces or lazing by the pool are
favourite pastimes of their guest. Treat yourself to the unique atmosphere
of this charming property. From Nutmeg Grove is a leisurely walk to the
popular tourist spot at Crystal Cascades. This is a Wet Tropics World
Heritage Area with a fabulous gorge with the coolest swimming holes and
rapids. Fauna and flora abound and is an artist and ornithologist's delight.
Your hosts Ingrid and Terry Douglas offer a private guest wing to ensure
your privacy is respected. They encourage guests to enjoy their home and all
that it has to offer. French doors open off all rooms onto cool covered
verandas. These overlook mountains, lush tropical gardens and the
rainforest.
Captain James Cook first ventured into these uncharted reaches by necessity
in 1770 - the last chance for a crew seeking freedom from the beautiful but
deadly coral reefs of the Great Barrier Reef. Lizard Island promised these
early travelers an unparalleled vantage point and a welcome source of fresh
provisions. Some two centuries later, little has changed on Lizard. Lizard
Island is Australia's northernmost island resort. It is located 150 miles
north of Cairns and 57 miles north east off the coast from the remote
township of Cooktown. Those in search of real escape continue to voyage from
all corners of the earth to experience this rare and remarkable reef
experience. Come to experience the complete freedom, the secluded beaches
and countless tropical delights this exotic destination affords the
discerning traveler. Meet the occasional Monitor Lizard (after which the
island is named), the prolific bird life, the countless and dazzling array
of tropical fish, the 70 year old giant clams and the colorful marine life
of Lizards spectacular fringing coral reefs - only a leisurely snorkel from
the beach. Then, a little further a field, set your sights on the sheer
magnificence of Australia's Great Barrier Reef. The nearby "Cold Hole"
is a Mecca for divers with curiosity and fascination, and this is just one
of the many unforgettable dive sites that are all close by.
Even in this short space of time you would have experienced hospitality at
its best with authentic Aussies, and witnessed some of Australia's
incredible secrets, that make the land down under the only place to go!
Reflect on your on your wonderful experience, and begin planing your next
adventure to this remarkable country. Return to Adelaide, for your
connecting flight to Sydney, and board your international flight to Los
Angeles.
