Day 1 : Auckland
- Bay of Islands
Land into Auckland New Zealand. You will immediately transfer to a one hour
connecting flight north to the Bay of Islands. Upon arrival you pick up your
rental car and enjoy a short drive north to your secluded bay. Your first
honeymoon accommodation needs to be special - and it is. Set by the Pacific
Ocean, you can watch the sun rise from your bed.
Day
2 : Northland / Bay of
Islands
Immerse yourself in the exquisite marine environment - kayaking, diving,
snorkeling, big game fishing, walking, swimming - or just recharging. The
lodge offers snorkels, kayaks and a small boat to fish from for their
guests. This is the perfect place to be active and the perfect place to do
nothing. Enjoy a soak in the Jacuzzi with a phenomenal view after exploring
the Bay of Islands or after relaxing at the beach. You may wish to drive to
near by Bay of Islands for an adventure.
Day 3 : Northland /
Bay of Islands
Another full day to relax and indulge around your lodge or perhaps explore
the Bay of Islands, Paihia, Russell or a day trip to Cape Reinga.
Day 4 : Northland -
Auckland
Today you bid the beach good-bye and head south down to Auckland, The City
of Sails. The rest of the afternoon is free to relax or explore the quaint
and charming village of Devonport with its historic points, boutique shops,
art galleries and waterfront restaurants. Devonport is a 10-minute ferry
ride from the hustle and bustle of Auckland City
close enough yet
removed.
Day 5 : Auckland
- Rotorua
After a glorious breakfast (this B&B is famous for their breakfasts!)
you will drive along the Waikato River, through the green rolling valleys of
Cambridge, our Thoroughbred horse region, and finally the lakeside town of
Rotorua. Rotorua is best known for its thermal reserves with geysers,
bubbling mud and colorful sulfur vents and its rich Maori culture.
Day 6 : Rotorua
A full day guided tour with a difference! You will be picked up by a Maori
driver/guide. Your first stop is Wai O Tapu thermal gardens where you will
enjoy a traditional Powhiri (Maori Welcome) before seeing the bubbling mud,
geysers, sulfuric vents and formations. Enjoy a walk in the native bush to a
thermal stream for a leisurely soak in the hot therapeutic waters. Your
guide will be offering Maori history, stories and legends throughout the
day. Then it's a four-wheel drive mountain tour to a hidden bush camp where
lunch will be enjoyed. Your last adventure of the day is a walk to the
stunning Tarawera Falls. This day tour takes in Rotorua's most beautiful
scenery with a funny, informative, knowledgeable guide.
Day
7 : Rotorua - Blenheim -
Kaikoura
A morning flight transports you from Rotorua to the premier wine district
of Blenheim. Famous for its Sauvignon Blancs, you may wish to enjoy a bit of
wine tasting or lunch at one of the charming vineyard cafes before heading
south to Kaikoura. Once the whaling station in the country, it is now the
mammal conservation centre of South Pacific. Kaikoura has a very unique
feature; deep underwater canyons run through the Kaikoura area with depths
of 870 metres occurring only a kilometer offshore. A little further out the
depths are 1600 metres and they contain the deepwater fish and squid that
whales love. The huge canyon so close to shore creates an all you can eat
buffet for shellfish, fish, birds, seals, dolphins and whales, which offers
fabulous wildlife viewing. Combine this wildlife viewing with picturesque
rock beaches and the dramatic Kaikoura mountain range and you get a unique
location with lots to see and do.
Day 8 : Kaikoura
Full day to enjoy the wildlife, landscape and adventures of Kaikoura.
Day 9 : Kaikoura -
Christchurch -
Queenstown
Today you trade ocean views for lake views when you drive south to
Christchurch and then hop on a one-hour flight to Queenstown. Queenstown is
the adventure capital of the country offering endless opportunities for
excitement or wilderness encounters.
Day 10 : Queenstown
A full day to indulge in all that's Queenstown!
Day
11 : Queenstown -
Fiordland Overnight Cruise
To add to the special factor of this unique honeymoon, your last night will
be spent on an overnight cruise on either Milford Sound or Doubtful Sound.
Drive from Queenstown to Te Anau, the gateway to the Fiordland National
Park. There you can visit the native bird sanctuary; take a cruise across
the lake to see the limestone cave and glowworm cave before heading to the
Sound. Once you board your cruising vessel, enjoy a two-hour cruise on the
Sound enjoying the tranquility and remote wilderness. You may wish to enjoy
a kayak on the Sound before dinner.
Day 12 : Fiordland - International departure
Wake up to the silence of the Sound - only the sound of native birds can be
heard in this remote waterway. After breakfast you cruise back to the wharf
and disembark at 9am. Re-united with your car you drive 4-5 hours back to
Queenstown where you hop on a flight to connect with your International
departure.
